Since people just love reading boring documents it’s good practice to employ privacy policies, BostonOffline.com now has its very own privacy policy which can be found in the footer of most top level pages.

Before you look up canonical on thefreedictionary.com, let me give you a visual on what this means and why it is no good for search engines and the overworked webmaster.
This is a recent log snapshot from one of my stat trackers, Webalizer:
If you look at #2 and #5 , you will see they are the same URL, just one has the www and the other doesn’t. Same goes for #9 and #12. (#4 and #10 are the same but that’s not the same issue).
As to why this is no good for search engines, I will refer to Google’s Matt Cutts, SEOMoz and 14th Colony who explain it better than I ever could.
Why this is no good for the overworked webmaster (i.e. me) is it makes it harder to quickly gauge how many hits a page gets. I have to add the hits of #9 and #12 to see how many hits the E and E Club page gets. While I don’t mind hard work, I hate unnecessary work. Thankfully, this problem should be gone in the near future after a little re-coding. For all webmasters, this is something you should check out for your site too!

The local resources page has a few new additions.

As mentioned earlier, the sitemap is now up. The sitemap will be updated immediately whenever a new page is added or an old page is deleted/moved.
If you have a particular page bookmarked and it’s deleted, don’t worry, the sitemap will appear automatically. No more ugly “Page can not be displayed errors” !

Certain pages will be retooled in the next few days. Since some existing URLs will become invalid, and simply because it’s best practice and long overdue, a sitemap will be added to non-subdomain pages so you can quickly see a listing of every page or subdomain on the website. You will also notice a couple of additions to the navigation bar of non-subdomain pages.

Yesterday I added Sitemeter’s stat counter to this blog to see where traffic is coming. This what done more out of curiousity as opposed to a need for deep analysis vis-à -vis the homepage.

One of the gripes I hear (and share) of other Bostonians is the lack of quick access to information and resources beneficial to us. If there’s one thing I like, it’s solving problems. Therefore, with a good bit of help, an authorative Community Directory is in development and should be live by December 8. This will contain primarily ethnic based info along with general info such as links to city and state departments.
